Training Course
Training is the raison d'etre of UNCRD. Since its establishment in 1971 the Centre has conducted thirty annual International Training Course in Nagoya, Japan and seven annual Africa Training Course in Nairobi, Kenya.
Lecture & Presentation
Natural disasters may occur anytime at anywhere in the world. A great number of people are suffering from the devastating natural disasters, such as Indian Ocean Tsunami 2005. The Hyogo Office is committed to analyze, research, and propose effective means of disaster management enabling people of local communities and government to protect themselves in natural disasters.
At your request, staffs from UNCRD Hyogo Office will visit your office, school, workshop or event to give lectures or to make presentation about disaster management and our activities.

Office Visit
UNCRD Hyogo Office accepts visitors at requests. We provide general information on UNCRD activities by video, presentation on projects by staffs, briefing, and discussion session. Our office visit could be part of your training program. In the past, we had trainees from various training programs by international organizations, government, or non-governmental organizations.

Development of Training Program
In order to achieve safe and sustainable communities, it is important to enhance capacity of the community. Cooperating with local partners, UNCRD Hyogo office develop and implement training program which focuses on awareness raising and capacity building of local communities.
These include:
- Training for Masons on earthquake resistant technology
- Disaster education for school children and communities
- Training for policy makers and government officials
- Local workshops
Urban communities: Training program were conducted in 21 cities in developing countries through the urban community vulnerability project. Participants were city managers, lifelines and utility agencies, and city engineers.
Rural Communities: Training programs were conducted in different districts in the earthquake affected areas of Gujarat, India. The participants were mainly the masons, community leaders, and local engineers
Symposium / Workshops
Shearing experience and dissemination is important. Several major international workshops were organized by the Hyogo Office. All these workshops were documented and several reports, proceedings were published, and disseminated widely though hard copies as well as through homepage.
